Maya Shell Vessel
An exceptionally large and important Maya Vessel in the form of a seashell. Dating to the Late Classic period ca. 650-900 A.D., this vessel depicts the Maya legend of God N who emerged from a seashell to create the Maya world. Carved pigmented temple designs at the base and vividly painted in shades of orange, red and black. From Guatemala and in excellent condition absolutely rare form with one small shard restored to the base. Height 6 ¾ inches Width 6 inches.
