Ancient Attic Askos
I am proud to offer this rare Attic Askos from the 5th century B.C. It has a high elegant arching handle spanning from the base to the top portion of the spout. This Askos is adorned with two lovely red-figured animals, a Griffin and a canine. The Griffin itself was a compound creature which was half eagle and half lion and has for centuries been known for its symbol of vigilance and strength. Griffin's have often been called "The Houds of Zeus" and on this lovely Askos is rendered in a seated position. Similarly on the opposite side we have a seated dog. Height: 2 ¾ inches Length: 4 ½ inches (from the tip of the rim to the back of the base)

Asking $1000.00
