Ancient Khmer Daggers

These striking rare bronze handled daggers with iron blades date to the 12th century and originated from the ancient Khmer empire of Cambodia. The handles have a lovely green patina and are absolutely intact. The iron blades have some minor loss as seen in the photo's. The length of the largest dagger is 14 inches in length and the smaller is 13 ½ inches. The civilization of the ancient Khmer in Cambodia is known for its extraordinary art and architecture of the periods between the sixth and sixteenth century. In the initial periods Khmer society was basically a collection of small kingdoms and only until the sixth century did it eventually consolidate. By the ninth century, the legendary Angkor emerged in the north as the capital of the unified kingdom "Kambuja," which encompassing much of present day Thailand, Laos, and Vietnam. "The three chief periods of Khmer civilization are defined in relation to this capital: pre-Angkor (before the 9th century), Angkor (9th-15th century), and post-Angkor (after the Thai invasion in 1431)". Unfortunately because of Cambodia's political instability and geographic isolation much of the artistic legacy has been until recently un-regarded and to some extent inaccessible to Western collections. Therefore take this opportunity to purchase two fabulous Khmer daggers worthy of any collection.
