Ancient Egyptian Faience Amulet of Isis
This multi coloured faience amulet depicts the goddess Isis seated on a throne while cradling the young god Horus in her arms. Isis was the sister and wife of Osiris and the mother of Horus. Isis is depicted as a woman, wearing a headdress and the solar disk between a pair of horns. Isis was a vital link between man and the gods. The pharaoh Horus was her young son and mainly portrayed suckling on her divine breasts. There are numerous statues in Ancient Egypt depicted in this manner. Seen as the greatest Egyptian goddess and one of the judges of the dead, Isis was also the giver of life and food to the deceased.
